Russ Randle, LAW ’80
Board Member
Russ is a 1980 graduate of Yale Law School, where he served on the Yale Law Journal, chaired the Environmental Law Association, and attended the Episcopal Church at Yale where he served on the congregational council. After a federal district court clerkship, he went into private practice in the environmental and international trade fields, while doing pro bono work that has included asylum petitions for Sudanese refugees, advocacy work with DC Appleseed, a nonprofit advocating for the cleanup of the Anacostia River in DC and obtaining 501(c)(3) tax exempt status for the League of Conservation Voters. His work for The Episcopal Church (TEC) has included multiple mission trips to Sudan and South Sudan, representation of the Diocese of Virginia eight times at General Convention, and service for seven years as a lay representative to Executive Council, which manages the business of TEC in between General Conventions. His current church work focuses on updating the TEC canons as part of that Standing Commission, and with Wycliffe Bible Translators, helping to raise prayer and financial support for the translation of the Bible into the languages of the people of South Sudan and Sudan. The Dinka Bible was finally completed and published in 2025, after more than thirty years of effort, bringing Scripture to over two million people in their native language.
Julie Randle and Russ were married by the Rev. Pat Underwood, ECY Chaplain, in 1979 and have three grown children, Katherine, Sarah, and Stephen, and one granddaughter, Mira Jeanne. Sarah is a 2018 Ph.D. from Yale who now is Professor of Urban Studies at Singapore Management University.
