At age 17 Silvia found a lifelong home at Yale to which she keeps returning. She received a BA, stayed for a JD, and came back for an MAR in Liturgical Studies. Her son, Philip, graduated from Yale College in 2014. Before joining ECY’s board, Silvia had served on the University Council and as trustee of Berkeley Divinity School, the Episcopal seminary at Yale. Her board service outside the university has included trusteeship of WGBH Boston and of Concord Academy (MA), as well as membership in Mass. General’s President’s Council.
After receiving a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the Derner Institute at Adelphi, the bulk of Silvia’s professional life has been spent working from an integrative psychoanalytic framework with English- and Spanish-speaking adults. She served on the clinical faculty of Harvard Medical School, Cambridge Hospital, where she supervised psychiatry residents and psychology interns. After the 2010 earthquake struck Haiti, she was Head Psychologist of Partners in Health, the NGO founded by Dr. Paul Farmer. Silvia is a consecrated widow; she serves liturgically, preaches, and writes occasionally on spiritual and theological matters for online publications. She divides her time between Key Biscayne (FL) and Geneva, Switzerland, where she is a Licensed Worship Leader at Emmanuel Episcopal Church.
