The Rev. Emily Boring, ’17, MAR ’23
Emily is Associate Rector of All Souls Episcopal Church in Berkeley, California. Originally from Salem, OR, she earned her BS in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Yale in 2018. She then completed a Master's of Science at Oregon State University in 2019, studying intertidal ecology and the genetics of sea stars. She returned to Yale for her MAR degree ('23), where she studied religion and literature as part of the Institute of Sacred Music. She is passionate about contributing to dialogue at the intersection of science and religion, especially through creative writing. Her essays have appeared in the Atlantic, The Christian Century, Yale Scientific, Yale Literary Magazine, and more. Her first book-- What the Body Means to Say: Reflections on Science, Faith, and the Self-- will be published by Simon & Schuster in June 2027. Emily was active in ECY as an undergraduate, and served ECY’s seminarian intern while she was a student at YDS. She was deeply formed by this community and looks forward to giving back by serving on the Board.
